Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives, Inc. (NASDAQ: IEA), which is a leading infrastructure firm with both specialty civil and renewable energy expertise, announced today that White Construction, which is a fully-owned affiliate of IEA, has received a $75 million award from Invenergy, which is a leading privately-held global operator, developer, and owner of sustainable energy solutions.

The Sapphire Sky Wind Project, which is a planned 250-megawatt (MW) utility-scale wind farm situated in McLean County, Illinois, will be constructed by IEA under the conditions of the contract award. IEA is going to self-perform the construction and engineering of 64 wind turbines and roughly 20 miles of private-land access roads, as specified in the scope of work. The project began in the fourth quarter of 2021 and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2022. During construction, the project is estimated to generate almost 300 new job opportunities for the state of Illinois.

With more than 6,000 MW of wind-powered electricity-producing capacity online, Illinois is ranked fifth in the United States. With roughly 1,100 MW of wind power capacity under construction or in advanced development, the wind is expected to generate over 90% of the state’s renewable energy generation.

“Invenergy is a trusted, long-term partner of the IEA company, a firm whose dedication to delivering large-scale sustainable energy solutions closely matches with our mission and principles,” said IEA CEO JP Roehm. “We are pleased to collaborate with them on this vital project, which will further position Illinois as a top domestic wind energy provider while also bringing major socio-economic benefits to McLean County residents.”

“We’re excited to be working with the IEA team again on our largest renewable energy project in Illinois,” stated Bryan Schueler, who works as the Senior Executive Vice President and Construction Business Leader. “It’s critical to accelerating the renewable energy shift in Illinois and even beyond by collaborating with reputable partners like the IEA.” IEA has built over 20 gigawatts of the renewable energy projects in North America to date.
