The University of Barcelona is the state leader and is ranked 87th in the world in the QS Graduate Employability Rankings 2022, a classification published today by Quacquarelli Symonds in which 550 university centers are ranked according to an index that measures employability. The UB is among the 17% of the best universities in the world in this ranking.
The ranking takes into account five indicators. First, the reputation among employers (employer reputation), which measures the opinions of employers, with some 75,000 responses, and has a weight of 30% in the ranking. Next, the results of the graduates (alumni outcomes), which takes into account the development of the graduates during their professional careers and has a weight of 25%.
Third, collaborations with companies (employer partnerships), which analyzes which universities collaborate more satisfactorily with the world of work and also account for 25% in the ranking. The fourth indicator evaluates the connection between employers and students (employer-student connections), has a weight of 10% and analyzes the number of companies present on campus and offering opportunities to students. Finally,
The University of Barcelona stands out especially in the collaboration between university and company , with a score of 99.5 out of 100. Regarding the insertion rate of graduates, it obtains a score of 74.6. Overall, the University of Barcelona has a total assessment of 61.1.
Excellent results in employability despite the pandemic context
The Vice-Rector for Students and Participation, Marta Ferrer, qualifies these UB results as “very satisfactory, taking into account the impact of the Covidien-19 pandemic on the activities that the University routinely carries out to promote the employability of our students ».
In the 2019-2020 academic year, coinciding with the period of confinement, the offer of academic internships outside the UB fell by 12% and job offers in the job market fell by 41%. “All of this forced the faculties to make an enormous effort to find new companies and entities where the students could be located to be able to do the internships. In addition, job fairs had to be suspended and the number of companies that participated was reduced by 35%, ”says Ferrer. Despite these difficulties,
The UB is followed in the State by the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the University of Navarra. In Catalonia, the UB is followed by the UPC, the UAB and the UPF. Up to fifteen state universities appear in the ranking.
The world rankings are led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) , Stanford University, the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA) and the University of Sydney. In this edition, which is already the fifth in this ranking, the number of institutions analyzed has increased: in total, 786 have been studied compared to 758 in the previous edition. The results of the 550 best centers have been published.
The objective of the classification is to answer questions such as what is the reputation of universities among companies, what degree of connection do universities have with companies or what interest a university graduates arouse in the labor sector.
